SHIRLEY SHIELDS

Shirley is from a small farming town called Feilding, New Zealand. She has taught all grades in primary schools. During her last 3 years in New Zealand she worked with students who could not cope in secondary school. She enjoys sports and plays badminton. She also likes sewing, craft work and travelling.
 
 
 
 
CHRIS WALL

Bachelor of Teaching

Chris is from Hawera on the West Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. He went to university in Waikato, Hamilton. There he had the opportunity to teach at all primary levels. He was offered a position as a teacher in Christchurch and worked there for 2 years. Within that time he was involved in coaching rugby and touch. He also plays touch for New Zealand and has been in the team for 11 years. His other interests include travel, reading and watching rugby league.
 
 
 
 
JOHN HUNT

John comes from Nottingham, England. John comes from Nottingham, England. He has taught in both international and government schools in England, Papua New Guinea and Singapore, for over 25 years. He has been living in Singapore for the past 12 years as a Permanent Resident with his wife Devi, who is a Singaporean. His interests are school drama productions, local history, archaeology, singing, philately and travelling.
 
 
 
 
CHRISTINA MAXYMENKO

Christina comes from Newcastle, north of Sydney. She has worked for the NSW Department of Education for over 35 years. Her professional roles included teaching in both primary and secondary schools, Deputy Principal, Computer Consultant, Literacy Consultant, senior Education Officer with Assessment and Reporting, and Lecturer at Newcastle University. Her favourite years were as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. Her interests include reading, travelling, tennis and sailing.
 
 
 
 
BEN L. HERMANS
Bachelor of Arts
Diploma in Education

Ben is well qualified to teach as an English tutor, having completed an Education Degree at La Trobe University in Australia and also extra tertiary courses in ESL (English as a Second Language) and Language Methodology. He has taught both primary and secondary classes in Australia and England, spending the past 3 years teaching English in government and independent schools in England. During this period he also spent some time developing a course syllabus and teaching English to French students. Ben is an active sportsman and enjoys travelling.
 
 
 
 
CLAIRE BLACK
Diploma of Teaching

Claire has been teaching in semi-rural primary schools on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria for the past eighteen years. She has taught all year levels and likes them all for different reasons. Her passion is teaching English and is continually taking short courses to update her skills. At home she spends hours reading or walking her Guide Dog pups. Raising Guide Dog pups is one thing she will miss while in Singapore. She likes going to the movies, exploring quaint places and dining out.
 
 
 
 
CHRISTINE HARLAND
Bachelor of Social Science
Child Care Diploma

Christine is a very well-qualified teacher, having completed a Bachelor of Science, and Diplomas in Community Services, Social Science and Child Care at Flinders University and TAFE in South Australia. She has many years of experience in early childhood settings both as teacher and director, including working with students with special needs. Having visited Singapore several times before, Christine is looking forward to living and working here.
 
 
 
 
MARISSA TURNER
Bachelor of P.Ed (Honours)
Diploma in Education

Marissa completed an honours degree at Brock University in Canada and then a Post-graduate education diploma at Deakin University in Australia. She has taught children ranging from Nursery to P6 at Christian Junior Campus and Oberon South Primary School in Geelong, Australia. Her passion for teaching and travel is what brought her to Singapore and she has been enjoying the adventures both inside and outside the classroom.
