Teaching Staff

All 45+ Morris Allen teachers are trained native English speakers. They are selected based on their dedication, passion and qualifications as English specialists and all are registered with the Ministry of Education to teach the English language.

Graeme Baumgart (B.A., Dip. Tchg)
Academic Director

Graeme is from New Zealand. As a trained teacher, he taught English at junior and senior levels in Tonga, New Zealand and the Maldive Islands. He was Head of English at Otaki College for 10 years, as well as being responsible for external exams, senior student welfare and sports administration.

Graeme, who joined us in 2008, speaks 4 languages and enjoys the multicultural experience and teaching at MAE. With his wealth of experience, his lessons are always fun-filled and motivating.

Denise Purdey (B.A., Grad Dip Spec Ed, TPTC)
Deputy Academic Director

Denise is a very highly experienced teacher from Australia, where most recently she has been providing literacy support to small groups of students of various ages.

She was a very popular teacher when she taught previously at MAE as the leading teacher of our Bishan branch and returned here in 2010 to continue working with Singapore students.

Edwina Allen (B.A., Grad Dip Tchg. TPTC)

Edwina comes to MAE from Wellington, New Zealand, after spending many years teaching students from pre-school to secondary level. She has spent some time living and teaching English in Istanbul, Turkey and is keen to experience another culture again. Edwina gets very involved with the needs of her students and Singapore students will respond well to this.

June Hughes (B. Ed, Dip.Tchg, TESOL)

Before joining MAE in 2010, June has had extensive experience teaching primary school students in Queensland, Australia. Most recently she was working in an early learning centre.

During her career she also worked as a Reading Recovery teacher and Learning Support teacher and she completed a certificate in teaching English as a second language. This gives her very strong qualifications for assisting Singapore students with their English.

Amy Hutton (B.Ed)

Amy came to MAE in 2009 from Brisbane Australia. Her wide range of teaching experience encompassed schools in Australia, Cambridge in England, ESL in Japan and a child care centre.

Amy has a caring nature and a very strong commitment to the students in her classes and her lessons at MAE have proven to be enjoyable and enriching, especially to inquisitive minds.

Rick Francis

After many years of teaching in Australia, Rick has been teaching in Singapore since 2005, and has a very good understanding of the local syllabus.

Having previously taught at our Jurong, Bishan and Simei branches, Rick is now using his knowledge and skills to develop the English of our Bishan students and they enjoy his caring and good-humoured nature.

Elloise Ritchie (B.Ed., Cert Tourism)

Elloise came to MAE in 2010 from Perth Australia. She completed an education degree at Edith Cowan University with a major in English and Drama and has since had experience teaching at both primary and secondary levels in a number of schools.

Her bubbly personality will appeal to students of all levels and motivate them to excel.
